Ron DeSantis is not yet officially in the presidential race and the battle lines are already being drawn.
Trump thinks he’s found a new line of attack.
Donald Trump let Ron DeSantis have it in this shocking video.
The divide on funding Joe Biden’s war in Ukraine is the biggest split in the GOP.
Establishment-aligned RINOs like Nikki Haley, Tim Scott and Chris Christie as well as Mike Pence and Mike Pompeo are all-in on writing a blank check to pour even more taxpayer money than Joe Biden asked for into Ukraine.
Donald Trump’s called for an end of taxpayer funding for Joe Biden’s war as well as peace talks.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis tried to straddle the line.
At first, DeSantis responded to Tucker Carlson by describing the war as a “territorial dispute” that did not hold any vital strategic interest for the United States.
But after establishment RINOs like anti-gun and pro-amnesty Texas Senator John Cornyn complained DeSantis tried to backtrack and appease the Mitt Romney/Liz Cheney wing of the GOP.
In an interview with liberal journalist Piers Morgan, DeSantis used talking points from the Romney presidential campaign calling Putin a war criminal and describing him as running a gas station with 6,000 nuclear weapons.
In a video posted to Truth Social Trump hammered DeSantis for flip-flopping on Ukraine and for toeing the establishment line which supports Joe Biden’s reckless escalation in Ukraine which even experienced foreign policy hands worry could end up in nuclear war.
Trump compared DeSantis to Romney with his rhetoric about Russia and its President, Vladimir Putin, saying DeSantis trying to draw a harder line on Ukraine than Joe Biden is “ignorant and foolish.”
“And where is that war going? Those such as Mitt Romney and Ron DeSantis, very much alike, who insist on arrogantly treating Russia as deeply inferior to the other nations of the world with no history or culture or pride, are not only ignorant and foolish, but their attitude makes it impossible to negotiate peace. Absolutely impossible,” Trump declared.
Trump blasted DeSantis as a neocon like George W. Bush or Liz Cheney saying DeSantis calling Putin a war criminal who should be held accountable risked pushing Russia into a box where the only way out would be nuclear escalation.
Trump claimed DeSantis calling for accountability could be seen by the Russian government as advocating for Putin’s execution or removal which would turn the war into an existential threat to the Russian state.
That could cross a red line leading to nuclear war, Trump stated.
“This kind of neocon rhetoric mocking Russia’s nuclear weapons, along with implying that Putin must be tried and presumably executed as a war criminal, only increases the chance of deadly nuclear escalation. Fundamentally, it shows a lack of depth, a lack of seriousness and a lack of sophistication on the subtleties and complexities of foreign policy. You can’t do certain things and end up with peace. This is not the time for an on the job training as we face the possibility of nuclear war. And our leaders, if you call them, that, got us there. This is where we are. The word nuclear was never even mentioned during the Trump administration,” Trump added.
Trump pointed to his own record of rejecting the “failed foreign policy establishment” and starting no new wars as president and negotiating the Abraham Peace Accords in the Middle East as the type of record and leadership temperament that is necessary to steer America through Joe Biden’s latest crisis and avoid World War 3.
“Now it’s being mentioned every hour of every day. We need a statesman and a peacemaker in the White House, not someone who recites mindless and recycled talking points to win the approval of the failed foreign policy establishment that didn’t know what they were doing. In 2024, I am the only candidate who can prevent World War III. I will prevent World War III. There’s nobody else that’s going to do that. Thank you very much,” Trump concluded.
