Democrats are willing to go to extreme lengths to help Ukraine.
They’re even willing to hurt American voters.
And one top Democrat just got caught in an alarming scheme to aid Ukraine.
One Democrat Senator has declared that he’s personally willing to shut down the American government should aid to Ukraine not be included in the government funding bill.
“I hope it doesn’t come to that, but if it does, I certainly would be willing to shut the government down over this issue,” Sen. Michael Bennet (D-CO) said during an interview with NBC News. The Senator added that he believes “the stakes are high enough” to justify his position.
He reiterated his position on Wednesday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Katy Tur Reports.”
Host Katy Tur asked, “Are you ready to hold up a bill that comes to the Senate that does not include that Ukraine funding, potentially to shut down the government?”
Bennet answered, “I definitely am. I definitely am. I said on Saturday that my mom, she’s a Polish Jew, she was born in Warsaw, Poland in 1938, it’s very easy to see from her perspective, she survived — with the perspective of the 16 million people that were killed in Ukraine and Poland during World War II, how they get forgotten by politicians here that seem to be concerned with a different set of imperatives. And Katy, I don’t think this is a moment for politics. It’s not a question of when we go home, do we stay here, do we make a trade for this, or do we make a trade for that. … I think that we’ve given a little over $70 billion, which is less than what the Europeans have put in this war.”
However, President Joe Biden said Wednesday that he has plans to get Congress to approve funding for Ukraine.
“I’m going to make the argument that it’s overwhelmingly in the interests of the United States of America that Ukraine succeed,” Biden told reporters.
But he also said “there is another means by which we may be able to find funding” should Congress not vote to approve more tax dollars going to Ukraine.
Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) laid out the case of why funding the Ukrainian War is bad for the American people.
“I’ve been clear all along. Why should we be sending American tax dollars to Ukraine when we don’t even know what the goal is?” Jordan, who’s backed by Donald Trump for the House Speaker position, said last week.
“No one can tell me what the objective is. Is it some kind of negotiated peace? Is it driving them out of eastern Ukraine? Is it driving them out of Crimea, which they’ve had for 10 years now, that they took during the Obama administration? What is the objective?”
