Democrats are outraged that Tucker Carlson was given thousands of hours of January 6 footage.
So they’re now promoting strange conspiracy theories.
CNN claimed that Tucker Carlson was bribed by a top Republican with footage.
John King, a CNN host, said that House Speaker Kevin McCarthy gave footage of January 6th to Fox News host Tucker Carlson to try and get Carlson to stop criticizing McCarthy.
“Kevin McCarthy is giving Fox’s Tucker Carlson access to tens of thousands of hours of January 6 security footage,” King said during “Inside Politics.” “Your tax dollars paid for most of the cameras that captured the scene inside and around the Capitol that day but Speaker McCarthy is granting access only to Carlson and to Fox. Carlson is a frequent McCarthy critic, who says the speaker has no ideological core.”
McCarthy provided Carlson access to over 41,000 hours of video footage of the Capitol riot, Axios reported.
“Some of our smartest producers have been there looking at this stuff, trying to figure out what it means and how it contradicts, or not, the story that we’ve been told for more than two years,” Carlson said. “We think already that in some ways it does contradict that story.”
ABC’s midday talk show “The View” was also outraged that Carlson was allowed to view the footage.
“They go on the air and tell people all these lies that they don’t even believe themselves. And now he’s handed all this footage from January 6 to propagandize on Fox,” Joy Behar claimed, adding that Carlson “is saying to us basically, don’t believe your eyes, believe what I tell you.”
“This raises huge safety and security concerns for the Capitol,” Alyssa Farah Griffin said, claiming secure locations and escape plans could be compromised.
“As a Republican, we always say we ‘back the blue,’” she said, adding, “Well, you just exposed the entire Capitol and undermined the Capitol Police and their safety precautions for something like a January 6, were it to ever happen again, or something like 9/11 where the Capitol was targeted.”
Behar suggested in return that it might not even be legal for Carlson to have the footage.
Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) claimed that there were “potential security risks” of U.S. Capitol security footage being released to Carlson.
“When the Select Committee obtained access to U.S. Capitol Police video footage, it was treated with great sensitivity given concerns about the security of lawmakers, staff, and the Capitol complex,” Thompson said.
“Access was limited to members and a small handful of investigators and senior staff, and the public use of any footage was coordinated in advance with Capitol Police. It’s hard to overstate the potential security risks if this material were to be used irresponsibly,” he added.
